Greg Hancock was the best rider of the Monster Energy Team during the first round of the Speedway Best Pairs 2017. Team made of riders from the local Get Well Toruń did not go through to the final, because of American’s exclusion, who touched the tape in the decisive moment of the meeting.
During the 2016 season’s inauguration, Monster Energy Team’s riders were doing really good at Motoarena, which led them to the win of the first round of SBP. This year, Greg Hancock, Chris Holder and Paweł Przedpełski were created not only as possible winners of the Toruń’s round, but the whole series as well. As it turned out, team managed by Joe Parsons had to struggle a lot to fight for the win.
After the first round of this year’s series, Monster Energy Speedway Team is currently third in the overall classification. Local fans surely hoped that in the race-off heat, Hancock and Holder would have defeated the Boll Team and go through to the final, however it was at the start, when their hopes vanished. Greg Hancock touched the tape and in the decisive moment of the meeting, he got excluded.
- Referee hold the starting machine a bit longer than usual, so I was sure it was going up, but I was wrong. It was an 'all or nothing’ heat. Big mistake, that doesn’t happen a lot to me. Unfortunately it did in the wrong moment, but it’s a part of this sport – said American.
- I feel really good and satisfied with my performance. Meeting was a good one, we ended at the rostrum and there are still two rounds left – said 4-time world champion. American admits, that first meeting of the season is always connected with testing some new setups.
- It’s hard to say something new, these were the first heats of the season. At the beginning, you’re always looking for proper setups, to be prepared for the whole season – Greg Hancock underlines.
