In the first round of this year’s Speedway Best Pairs, Eko-Dir Speedway Team got the fifth position. Vaclav Milik collected six points in Toruń, four were added by Szymon Woźniak and eight by Maksym Drabik.
Vaclav, what’s your opinion on your debut in the SBP series?
– It was a very tough meeting with a world’s top line up. First heat didn’t go well at all for me. Later on, we worked with some setups and I adjusted better. It was hard, but even though, I got few points. I am generally satisfied. First meeting of the year ended with no fall or engine’s failure. By the way, I would like to thank the Eko-Dir company for an opportunity to compete in the SBP series. I’m really glad of racing in such a strong company. During such meetings, you can learn a lot. We’ve got one round behind and two ahead, so I can promise we will fight for a good result.
What do you think about the changes that were made at Motoarena?
– Track in Toruń is slightly different than before. I have to admit that during the heats I didn’t take part in, it seemed like track was unable to fight on. It was in the last heat, when Piotr Pawlicki proved that at this modified surface, you can race better. I think that he was the only one proving that point.
Final heat was a pure… poetry. At the beginning, Boll Team was on the lead, but Piotr Pawlicki and Bartosz Zmarzlik didn’t lay down their arms.
– I haven’t seen such heat in a very long time. Piotr did something fantastic, raced like he should have had. Firstly, got himself to the outside line and then cut it perfectly to the inside. I tried it too, but it was „Piter” who managed to do that.
2nd round of SBP will be held in Gniezno, where not so long time ago, you had a chance to race. On April 1, you won the main series of a friendly tournament, but you were missed in the final.
– I can be satisfied with that tournament. Together with my team, we did a really good job. In the semis, I picked the wrong starting gate It would have been better If I took fourth instead of first. I didn’t have a good start, my rival blocked me and I wasn’t able to catch on. Track was slick, so it was hard to pass on the distance. Nevertheless, I was satisfied with my socre. Idea of this tournament is a really nice one. I wanted to put this crown, but it didn’t work. It was my first time in this meeting. If, in the future, I’ll get an invitation, I’ll be happy to accept it.
What is the mood in your team before another round of SBP?
– We’re in a fighting trim. If this track was prepared like during the April’s tournament, it would be cool – I found good adjustments already. If Maciek will join us, we will definitely be stronger and fight for the medals.
As you mentioned, you had a great chance to find proper setups for this track in Gniezno. It can be your advantage.
– Once I go at this track and see whether it’s similar, I’ll be calm. If it’s gonna be more grippy, we’ll have to work to improve. After all, I wasn’t in the final, so I can’t say I was perfectly adjusted to this surface. I got to work a bit more and it should be fine.
First round of SBP was taken by the Fogo Power with the Boll Team as runner-ups. Which team, in your opinion has got the biggest chances to finish the tournament at 1st position?
– In my opinion, Fogo Power and Monster Energy are the favourites. Boll Team is strong too, just like Eko-Dir Speedway Team.
